What Jungian Psychology and Astrology Reveal About the Lens Shaping Your Life
Why We Think Life Is Happening to Us (and Why That Is Not the Whole Story)
Most of us experience the outer world as something that happens to us. Events occur, circumstances unfold, and we feel caught in them. But astrology and Jungian psychology point to something different: your inner world, your psyche, your way of relating to reality, projects outward and shapes what you experience. (If you want an up close and personal look at how this plays in real life, I wrote about my own experience of this recently in “When The Universe Hands You A Mirror, What Do You Do With It?”)
You are not helpless to external events. You can explore your inner landscape through your birth chart and coaching work to understand how your inner reality is creating your outer one. Your inner world is far vaster than what you can see or touch in three-dimensional reality. It includes your perception, your beliefs, your energy, and your soul. And it is fundamentally connected to everything that shows up in your life.
How Perception Becomes Reality: A Simple Example
Three siblings grow up with the same father. He works a lot and is not often home. When he is present, he watches old western movies with his kids. One sibling loved those movies and remembers a father who showed up and invested time. Another hated them, felt dismissed when their dad refused to do something else, and remembers a cold, unavailable parent. The third sibling barely remembers those moments at all. One event. Three completely different realities. The father did not change. What changed is each sibling’s perception of him, shaped by their own beliefs, preferences, and what they needed in that moment. Your perception is your reality. And your perception was formed long ago, often by experiences with the people who raised you. That perception now filters how you see everything that happens to you.
The First Through Fourth Houses: Where Your Early Perceptions Live in Your Astrological Chart
Your birth chart, specifically the first through fourth houses, reflects the archetypal energies at play during your early formative years. Your first house is who you are and how you move through the world. Your second house is what belongs to you, what feels safe, and how you perceive your value. Your third house is how you think and relate to others around you. Your fourth house is your inner world, your psyche, the foundation beneath everything else (and also signifies the energetic lineage of past lives and familial lineages that are important for healing). Different sign placements and planetary placements within these houses signify very distinctly the perceptions that were formed early in life and carried throughout your life. These houses develop in your early years through your relationships with your parents and siblings, the events you experienced, and how you were treated and how you perceived that treatment. But they do not stop influencing you then. These energies continue to shape who you are and what you do throughout your life, often in ways you do not even realize.
The Decoupling Process: Separating What You Experienced from The Pure Archetypal Energies
Every person carries an image of their mother, father, and inner child, shaped by their experiences in their younger years. That image holds a complex, a cluster of emotionally charged memories and defensive strategies. Together, they form the lens through which you see and create your reality. If you perceived your father as cold and unavailable, you move through life expecting coldness. You attract situations that confirm that belief. You project that perception outward, and it becomes your reality. The archetypal decoupling process works by separating the image and complex you created from the pure archetype itself. The mother archetype in its pure form is nurturing and safe. The father archetype in its pure form is grounded and protective. The child archetype in its pure form is curious and alive. When you decouple your personal wound from the pure energy, you free yourself from that limiting lens. You can access the wholeness of that archetype instead of being stuck in the hurt. Your perception shifts. Your reality shifts with it.
What This Work Looks Like and How to Get Started
You do not need to be fixed. Everything is exactly as it should be. But the image and complex that is driving your perception has been running the ship without your awareness. This work brings that into focus so it no longer has to steer. When you see it clearly, space opens up for the pure archetypal energy you were born with to come through. That pure mother energy, father energy, child energy. That abundance, love, creativity, authority, safety. It is already inside you. You just need to clear the lens so you can access it.
This work is not only for people who are just beginning to explore their early experiences with their parents or caretakers. If you have already done that work and consider yourself self aware in that area, it can still be showing up in ways you have not yet seen. Maybe you are someone who wants to bring more nurturing or creativity into your life. Maybe you are building something new and want to access more structure and authority. Maybe you are a people pleaser who is ready to stop. This work meets you wherever you are.
You can experience this in a single session focused on whichever complex feels most urgent right now, or we can work together over several sessions to map your full chart and systematically clear the way. Either way, you get to decide what feels right. Let us connect.
